SUPANOVA Gold Coast 2012 - Geek Speak

Geek Speak were kind enough to get a few words off me about 'The Soldier Legacy' at the recent Gold Coast Supanova :D

Other good friends, and top guys got their faces on here too, including fellow Comic Book guests Stewart McKenny, Tristan Jones and Tom Taylor. Carlos Pacheco and Brian Michael Bendis are also interviewed at what turned out to be an awesome weekend.

My doofus-looking, sleep-deprived head turns up around the 12 minute mark ;P Enjoy!

"Let off some Steeeeammm, Bennett" a.k.a Punisher scribble.

Ok, again another week of crunching tasks to complete by the weekend, and the fates toss up another cool OzComic topic I just couldn't resist: 'The Punisher'. So I let off some stream by scribbling up a crazy looking Mr Castle. Huge fan of the character, so here was a scribbly, grey texta crazy warm up for today. It may even make the folio book for this year...(hmmm, thinking needed).

Check out all the rest of the album with a myriad of Australian comic artists here: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn Just click either direction to see the album. Great interpretations.

Guest at Melbourne's Oz Comic Con :D

Just recapping yesterday's announcement, I'm lucky enough to be a guest of Melbourne's inaugural Oz Comic-Con pop culture convention, on at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Sat & Sun June 30th-July 1, 2012.

It will be great to see all the Melbourne and interstate travelling fans again, as well as seeing all the great comic book guest, they have really gone all out to ensure the Australian flavour in the lineup too. Wonderful guests like Stewart McKenny, Nicola Scott, Doug Holgate, David Yardin, Dean Rankine, Jon Sommariva, and some awesome internationals, including a once-in-a-lifetime score of Stan Lee :D Should be a great weekend, and if you're interested, more soon regarding what will be available from me at the show :D

As always, thank you for the support.

P.s: There is some sad news in that the profile for the show mentions the "upcoming Parahuman story" with Chris Sequeira. Unfortunately, Black House Comics this week had to cancel the upcoming title due to a low number of submissions (the bitter irony of the comics scene here), but our story will appear in the near future in its entirety, and you may even see it in one form or another in Melbourne after all ;D More info soon.

RSA Animate - The Divided Brain

Totally left field here for the Soldier blog- a wonderful little video I came across on ABC News 24 while writing my thesis. When you think about it in context of comic books or pop culture entertainment, the implications here explain a lot about the creative process, and the audience participation and investment in stories and character (such as empathy). All academia should be presented in this manner- livens up dry theory, that's for sure. Enjoy :D

The speaker is renowed Psychiatrist and writer Iain McGilchrist.

Colour Commission: Luke Cage Power Man

Colour is still a constant learning curve. But I like the challenge of trying to make the heroes colourful, and close to their original appearance, without burning out the viewer's retinas, and being conscious of the environment of which the character is in. A pet peeve of mine is having a character in a setting that clashes with their colour. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, and in hindsight, the highlights are probably overdone- and he does look very "90's". Oh well, the learning continues.
